News: Take the fight to the necromorphs in Dead Space 2

Are you ready for another deep space nightmare? Then snatch up your trusty Plasma Cutter and get ready for Dead Space 2.

Announced earlier today, Electronic Arts and Visceral Games revealed the sequel to 2008's sci-fi horror title with the news of Dead Space 2.

“Like so many gamers worldwide, we love the Dead Space franchise and are very excited to announce a new game in the series,” said Nick Earl, Senior VP and Group General Manager at EA. “Visceral Games is quickly becoming known for delivering high-quality, action-packed games. Dead Space 2 is on target to deliver a jaw-dropping experience gamers won’t soon forget.”

It looks like the hero of the first title, Isaac Clarke, will return once again to reprise his role as the most adaptable engineer in the galaxy. However, unlike the first where Clarke was a prisoner of the SS Ishimura, Dead Space 2 will see the hero taking the fight to the necromorphs.

Visceral Games promises new weapons to slice and dismember the nightmare-inspiring necormorphs, as well as new Zero-G environments.

“We’re thrilled to jump back into the series, making the next chapter in Isaac’s journey," said Steve Papoutsis, Executive Producer of Dead Space 2. "The infection continues to spread throughout space and our hero Isaac Clarke is the only person able to contain it. There are still loads of necromorphs that need killing! In Dead Space 2, not everything is exactly as it seems. Expect plot twists that will surprise you and a huge cast of twisted, disgusting monsters that are sure to scare the daylights out of you.”

While I'm not a fan of making Clarke into this savior of the galaxy and ultimate badass, I would love another chance to revisit that universe again. It's creepy setting and excellent lighting effects made for a very visceral game, no pun intended.

However, it's too early to tell is Dead Space 2 will just be another Resident Evil 5, where action overcomes horror.

But if we still have access to the Ripper, then chances are, I'll be playing it.

Dead Space 2 will launch for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC.
